Badges

The Membership badge, District badge, County badge, Ki-Ro badge and Group name tape are all awarded at the young persons investiture.

Moving on awards and year stars are awarded to show progression of each young person through the scouting movement.

Activity Badges are awards for achieving the completed requirements in specific fields. Badges vary from section to section though almost always have a common running theme.

Staged awards are badges that can be gained to different levels of achievement and can be built upon in any section.

Challenge awards are more difficult badges that require greater involvement in the specific area. A young person must gain all six challenge badges (one for each programme zone) in each section to achieve the top award.

The Chief Scout Award is the top award in each section. Beaver Scouts work towards the Chief Scout Bronze Award, Cub Scouts work towards the Chief Scout Silver Award and Scouts work towards the Chief Scout Gold Award. In the Beavers and Cubs sections it is gained by completing six challenge badges (see above), whereas to attain the Chief Scout Gold Award, scouts must complete two additional challenge awards on top of the normal six.

The position of the badges on the uniform is very important. All groups conform to the standard positioning of badges to make it easier to see which awards have been gained in which areas. The positioning of badges for each section may vary. Please click the links below to see a diagram for each section.

The award of all badges depend on the requirements being met and the discretion of the group leaders
